Installation overview

How the meters are installed at the main distribution board, including voltage and current measurement.

This article explains how an Energy Monitoring system is installed in an existing electrical installation. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Which meters go where

All meters are installed at the main distribution board:

  • One Power Analyser measures the total power of the installation.
  • One Measurement Device is installed for each group you want to measure.

Voltage measurement

  • The voltage measurement can be taken from the existing voltage meters at the main distribution board.
  • The same voltage can also be used for the measurement device units.

Powering the Power Analyser

  • The Power Analyser can be supplied from one of the phase wires and the neutral of the voltage measurement.

Current measurement (total)

For the total energy measurement with the Power Analyser, you can use the current transformers already connected to the current meters at the main distribution board. Each phase of the Power Analyser current measurement must be placed in series with the existing current meter of that phase.

Current measurement (per group)

For the other groups, install split-core current transformers at the connection on the main distribution board. See Choosing current transformers (TQ30 vs TQ40-B).
