Placing and installing the Climate Sensor

Where to put the sensor, the placement rules for accurate readings, and how to mount and power it.

Where to use the sensor

The Cobra Climate Sensor is designed for indoor use in spaces where people are (occasionally) present. A typical deployment is one or two sensors per room. The sensor measures indoor climate data only: CO₂, temperature, humidity and air pressure.

Placement guidance

For accurate, representative readings, follow these rules when positioning the sensor:

  • Mount it as far as possible from ventilation openings — air moving directly past the sensor distorts the CO₂ reading.
  • Mount it on a wall, where there is no direct contact with people or animals.
  • Mount it at a height between 1.20 and 1.80 metres.
  • Do not mount the sensor on a ceiling.

Installing the sensor

The baseplate has mounting holes so you can fix the sensor to a wall or near a wall socket.

  1. Fix the baseplate to the wall using the mounting holes.
  2. Connect a quality USB power supply. The connector is hidden inside the casing.
  3. Click the sensor onto the baseplate.

As an alternative, you can power the sensor from an embedded USB power supply built into a wall socket.

Power requirements

  • USB powered, 5V (minimum 4.9V measured at the end of the cable).
  • Energy use is below 1 watt — typically around 600 mW.

Once the sensor has power, continue with Getting started with a pre-configured sensor.
